On a somewhat related note, Makoto’s band Trick has now opened their official website as well as MySpace. The latter has clips of a couple of as-of-yet unreleased Trick recordings.

12/21 edit: Λucifer’s new DVD will be on sale at the event. Those who purchase it there will get their copy signed by Makoto as well as the special guests who are, by the way, Atsuro (12/24) and Santa & Towa (12/25).

(Sorry for the recent downtime, I had computer trouble… thinking of purchasing actual webhosting for the site so this kind of thing wouldn’t happen again. When I do, I’ll let you know. In the mean time, my apologies for the downtime!)

As you know, ordering Aucifer’s new DVD through their online store can be troublesome if you’re not a resident of Japan. So here’s two alternatives for those of you who still haven’t bought their copy due to that difficulty. First off, one especially suitable for Thais… jayvee passed on this alternative to me. Thanks for the heads up!

Note that I’m not affiliated with Makoto-Thailand.com (who are behind this offer) and I can’t take any responsibility if you decide to order through them. Also, a point of inconvenience for some might be that they seem to only accept Western Union as form of payment. I have to add that the price for non-Thais, too, at 6000THB (~US$200) could be a bit much for some…

This could be an alright way for Thais to order the set, but note that there might be better alternatives out there (with other payment options, too, such as Paypal) for fans in other countries. One service I know of, for example, is Tenso.com. Read more about their service on Tofugu. If you want to calculate approximately how much it’d cost to order the set to your country with Tenso, you can do a rough calculation here. Again, I’ve personally not used Tenso and with Googling, there’s a chance you might find a service even cheaper than them that will do the job. However, Tenso does seem pretty trustworthy to me.

And as for when we can actually expect that DVD of this performance? Still no release date unfortunately, but it’s getting closer as you can read from these translations of Towa’s blog and Atsuro’s twitter:

Λucifer comeback live!!

I went! Λucifer’s comeback live in Akasaka BLITZ!!!
They started off with Datenshi BLUE!!
From the very start my excitement level was at its peak!
Although I thought I might be moved to tears from the nostalgia,
something surprising happened!! I didn’t feel nostalgic at all! (lol)
It felt like we’d jumped 10 years back in time,
Like “Hmm, I wonder around how many months is it since the last tour?”
I was watching the live with that kind of mindset! It was really strange.
Later, TOWA said in an MC that he felt the same way.
There’s just one thing that was different: the members’ skill levels respectively had all gone up!
At any rate, thanks to playing music in all kinds of styles, the members were already very skillful 10 years ago, but this time they’d gotten so much better, I was actually surprised!
They all played freely and enjoyed the show.
I think they were able to convey that to the fans, too.
Also, the MC’s were funny!!
In those days, Λucifer had an image to keep up with,
and they couldn’t hurt that image back then.
Now they don’t have that kind of an obligation anymore, so
YUKI was speaking in Kansai-ben, Akkun was an airhead,
MAKOTO-kun was making dirty jokes, TOWA was speaking like a bank employee (lol)
And San-chan was… yeah, San-chan’s MC’s hadn’t changed. (lol)
The selection of songs, too, was just filled with ones I love.
When they played the song I absolutely wanted them to play no matter what, Midnight Crow,
I got goosebumps!!
I love that guitar solo in the latter part.
Though I was in the 2nd floor center, wh-wh-what!!!
Somehow a pick from the famous Akkun flew to me.
This is the one.

What are the odds!! I was surprised～
They did Egovision, and they did DUMMY, and they did CARNATION CRIME
And C no Binetsu and LUCY and TOKYO Illusion and all my other most loved songs, I probably got to hear them all.
I was really glad!!

As we were watching the encore,
“They’ll definitely do ‘Dakishimeru Hoka ni Nani ga Dekirun darou?’“… is what some fans were thinking
Those fans knew their stuff quite well.
They did play it.
That song was the first one Sakuya sang in the anime.
It’s one that I really love.
There were 3 encores.
They finished with Datenshi BLUE.

The last one they played the time they broke up was Datenshi BLUE then, too～
As I thought, that song is the best.
Mori Yukinojo’s ingenius lyrics that have impact, and
TAKUYA’s catchy composition that you can’t forget once you hear it once.
It’s seriously amazing.

And then, this part of everyone’s youth, this band that I love
The fact that it was born from a manga that I created,
Every time I realize that, I feel I’m the luckiest mangaka in the world.
At the end, TOWA said “We used the word ‘re-formation’ and it won’t end here.
Just, until the next time we meet, Λucifer will be freezing its activites.”
I agree with that.
I’m really looking forward to being able to go to Λucifer’s live again.

I wasn’t able to attend the wrap-up party, but as they were practicing at the venue,
I got to talk to the members a lot.
San-chan… please stop calling me “mama“… (lol)
All these musicians who are still working hard at their craft,
we were able to have a fine reunion and talk a lot!!
It was fun～
Since I couldn’t go to the wrap-up,
It’s too bad I couldn’t meet the staff who have been supporting Λucifer since the beginning…
But, I’ll see them at the next live!
I’m already looking forward to it now!!

Rehearsal～

Today it was rehearsals for Λucifer’s performance in Thailand.
Today we also said farewell to the staff who were with us on this tour… really, thank you very much!
Then, I contemplated on it for a long time, but I ended up calming myself with a beer after all.
Ah man, I still love the taste of beer…
Oh, but it’s not like I’m a drunkard or anything…

Heading towards Thailand

The rehearsals for the Thai performance have begun.
Although it was just a while ago, this is the first time everyone’s together again since then, so it took some time to say hello.. (^o^)
It’s been eight days since BLITZ so of course we hadn’t forgotten about each other. That’s a relief (lol)

When the rehearsal ended, we went to have horumon～
I wonder why horumon’s so good..
However, it feels like when you see how it’s made, you absolutely don’t want to eat it anymore. (sweatdrop)

I’m having a bit of a late, short summer vacation with the company president!
But, it’s pouring down with rain!

Λucifer Thailand performance

Λucifer’s 10th anniversary commemoration reunion domestic tour took place in August on the Osaka, Nagoya, Akasaka area.
At last, the Thai performance has also finished.
I’m presenting you with a picture diary of Thailand.. (lol)

1st day

Finally, we got inside the plane headed to Thailand… we were on the runway…
But…
Because of strong winds, we had to wait inside the plane for an hour and a half…. (sweatdrop)
Seriously…. I had a hard time keeping calm and was about to chicken out during that time….

Arrival to Thailand～ As we were in the car, I got excited for a bit (lol)

The next day’s newspaper↓ Nestor… is leading!! (lol) (Note: absolutely no idea who this guy is…)
It’s the same kind of thing when Hollywood stars or something come to Japan but～
When standing side by side with Nestor… he definitely stands out more (lol)

2nd day

An event at the side of a shopping center!!!!!
It looked like there were maybe a little less than 1000 people there～…. A lot of people came to see us.

TOWA joined up with us just before this.

After an event there was a press conference～

After that, we had a rehearsal at the the venue at around 12 o’clock (2 o’clock Japan time)

The venue was… kind of like a little martial arts hall.

The sound engineer Takama who’s been with Λucifer since we were active gave us a nice sound today, too.
I’m really glad he wasn’t busy with GLAY this time～～..

The first day of Λucifer’s 10th anniversary tour at Osaka!
Thanks to the kindness of the fans and the staff, we were able to wrap up the live～Thank you!

However, it was the first time I was using a bit of foundation live..
The foundation as well as my hairspray that were dissolved by sweat really hurt when it entered my eyes! (lol)

We’re now busy moving towards Nagoya but,
I’d love it if I could check out the area some more～.

Freeze

The word “freeze” which suddenly came about in yesterday’s blog probably left some people who didn’t come to the last Tokyo show wondering what it was all about, so I’ll explain just in case now.

In the last MC, I said,
“As the reunion comes to its end, that also means re-dissolution… It was by the leader’s as well as everyone’s own decision that Λucifer are freezing activites again.“

Well, that’s the explanation for now…

After the festival…

To those of you who came to Λucifer’s 10th anniversary commemoration live in Osaka, Nagoya, Akasaka.

The tour ended yesterday at Akasaka.
To all of those who came to the venue, and those of you who cheered us on from home. Seriously, thank you very much.

How Λucifer came into being is like you already know,
At first it was born from Shinjo Mayu’s manga,
The manga was turned into an anime,
From the anime, the real thing’s “design” was realized.

Thinking back now, because it’s a band that was put together,

It’s not just the five of us members — the office staff, recording staff, tour staff all contributed with various ideas. Though we sometimes quarreled, we started working as one trying to figure out the ideal way to work with the band, and I think we were finally able to bring Λucifer to life. And then, thanks to the fans who started supporting that creation called “Λucifer” (Note: what Santa literally says here is ‘that flower vase called “Λucifer” was filled with flowers by you fans…‘ I swear, I’m not making this up!), we were able to become very successful and have lots of activities…

Λucifer isn’t just the five of us.

Λucifer is all the staff, all the fans and everyone else who participated in making Λucifer happen.

This time with Λucifer’s reunion live, we had high expectations as well as anxiety about it. It’s been seven years since then. The pace at which our fans were living — going to university, finding employment — I knew that had changed, so honestly I had anxiety about if anyone would come see us.

As I was worrying about things like that, I later came to know that the chief behind this production had said that if by any chance the worst happens and not even one person comes to see us, he’d be taking responsibility for it all.
Even under such dangerous circumstances, Japan’s specialists in music production cheerfully came to help us out.

And then, when we jokingly said in the rehearsals
“Shall we give our all～?!” “Nope!”
As we were having that conversation,
“Stop saying things like that.”
we got told that by the person responsible for PA…

Seriously, even though it was said in jest, I said something I shouldn’t have. It’s inexcusable.
Embarrassing…

Somehow I’m really filled with emotion right now. As I’m writing this, tears are coming out. Really, thank you so much everyone.

Visual kei? Idols?… is what you often hear Λucifer being referred to as, but
So far, to me it doesn’t feel like we’re visual kei. Idols? Not quite there, either… I don’t quite know where I stand on this, but I again felt this same feeling.
Λucifer aren’t visual kei nor  idols.

Λucifer are quite simply Λucifer, nothing more, nothing less.

We worked as one with specialists in Japan’s music industry, and together with all the fans created what we are today, a band that jumped into existence from an anime! Is there something wrong with that??… that’s how I feel about it.

It’s seven years since the break-up, and something that I back then never imagined would happen again, happened… we saw a new light.

Thank you.

It’d be nice to get together again sometime.

Λucifer 10th Anniversary LIVE Tour Rinne 8/31 in Akasaka BLITZ

Lights out.

The stage hidden by curtains.

“We’ll be back!”
Those parting words MAKOTO left us with at the Kokusai Forum, coupled with the SE “LEGEND.”

The members’ pictures are projected onto the curtain as they enter the stage.
And so they start playing the first song of the evening, “Silent Melody.”
The moment they enter the chorus, the curtains drop — and before one’s eyes is Λucifer.

This group of five, standing on stage again after seven and a half years.

Starting from the second song of “CARNATION CRIME”, it’s an explosion of up-tempo numbers.

The vocalist displaying his style that is both rough while also of good taste.
The guitarists making their presence known, striking their instruments but paying mind to detail.
The rhythm section playing together extraordinarily tight, yet aggressively.

The live was a showcase of these five people truly enjoying themselves.

 

The performance they did in the middle of the set, “C no Binetsu”
The song I was looking forward to the most.
The me who was watching KAIKAN Phrase around 11 years earlier was resurrected.
I was shivering from nostalgia.

It was a normal standing live without too much pushing, but as we got to the second half and “Poker Face”, the moment YUKI jumped off the stage into the arena was when it turned into a real, intense live within the crowd, too.

During “Midnight Crow”, the last song of the main set, was when I thought the most sense of unity was felt.

The last encore was “Datenshi BLUE.”
Finishing off with the song that started it all felt appropriate.

The MC’s were really “talk as much as you’d like.”
They were like at a class reunion.

 

「Λucifer will keep on living in everyones’ memories」

Thanks to being blessed with such a good number as 90 when lining up, I got to see the show from a really nice spot!
This day, being able to take part in Λucifer’s live, will make for one fantastic memory!
If they come back, I’ll definitely want to see them again!
Λucifer’s the best!!
