By Chance As Planned
(with ASKA)
We were dreaming
Merely following pre-learned steps
With no hesitation in our movements
We were looking
Into the faraway distance
With no clue as to what it all meant
The road ahead long and winding
My head began to spin…
Why don’t we talk a bit about the future?
If, say, the Earth was to turn upside down
Would I be able to catch you in my arms?
Just imagining it I suddenly feel uneasy
We were running
At a speed so fast there was no time to rest
Passing through each successive era
I happened to stop, and that is when I saw
The road that was supposed to be unending
Had now come to an end
And there I stood
Motionless
Conscious of a faint background sound
Like that of the great Sun setting in the sky
Holding you with both arms as tight as I can
But with no sure sign, which way are we to go?
Watching the silent Moon…
Shimmering on the water’s surface…
The trees all sneering at us…
As we shiver like a fire about to go out…
Sunlight eternally clad in the smell of the earth
Until finally a golden morning rises anew
Squatting on a strawberry field
The two of us holding hands
In the far recesses of memory
I could vaguely recall such a scene
Catching a cold by the name of “science is always right”
With you shivering in my arms, which way are we to go?
We were in love
In a stance of mutual understanding
We were looking
Into the faraway distance
From so much further before
By chance as planned
Time at last loses its axis
Sure enough, this is where we met
The road that was supposed to have ended
Now stretched ahead once more
We were dreaming
